National Cancer Care Coordinators Hui: A Day for Inspiration and Innovation

Hei Āhuru Mōwai is set to host the annual national Cancer Care Coordination Services Hui in Te Whanganui-a-Tara next month, uniting cancer care professionals within 20 Hauora Māori Partners across the motu, for a unique opportunity to exchange insights, knowledge, and perspectives that will help shape the future of cancer care in Aotearoa.

This annual event will bring together up to 50 cancer care professionals from around the country, creating a powerful space for collaboration and transformation.

Hei Āhuru Mōwai is privileged to support 20 Hauora Māori Providers across Aotearoa in delivering cancer care navigation services by encouraging localized tino rangatiratanga solutions.

“Through national coordination services, we hope to empower communities to lead their own healing journey.  We ensure that the voices of whānau are central in navigating cancer care, grounded in the values of whānau, whakapapa, and manaakitanga,” says Hei Āhuru Mōwai Tumuaki Gary Thompson.

Hei Āhuru Mōwai national Clinical Care Lead, Robyn O’Dwyer, shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming event: “This hui isn’t just another conference. It’s a chance to come together as a community of Hauora providers, share our experiences, celebrate our successes and plan how we can shape the future of cancer care for our whānau and communities.”

“By sharing our collective knowledge, we can create lasting impact and drive meaningful progress in the sector.”

Guided by mātauranga, this year’s hui offers cancer care kaimahi in the community a space to bring their authentic selves and transform cancer care.

Robyn emphasised, “It’s an opportunity to dive into key challenges, learn from inspiring mahi, and forge connections that will help drive innovation and elevate patient care across the sector.”

The national hui will centre around four key themes, ensuring a dynamic and motivating agenda:

Navigating Hope: Leading the Way in Cancer Care
Empowering Care, Transforming Lives
Healing Beyond the Diagnosis
Innovating Together: Sharing the Future of Cancer Care

“This is more than just a gathering – it’s a chance to shape the future of cancer care and make a difference that resonates beyond the hui for our whānau.”
