The Future of Cancer Care Navigation: Pae Tukutuku

Tukutuku te pō, tukutuku te ao. This is the voice of Pae Tukutuku—reverberating day and night, past, present, and future, connecting us to those places and moments of significance.

A monumental digital community of practice (CoP) platform designed to enhance the ability of 20 hauora Māori cancer care partners to connect, collaborate and provide quality care and navigation, is about to launch.

Pae Tukutuku, the digital community of practice, established by Hei Āhuru Mōwai, provides a platform to empower cancer care navigators and related kaimahi of the cancer care coordination (CCC) services by providing a space for collaboration, learning, and connection.

Hei Āhuru Mōwai Tumuaki Gary Thompson says Pae Tukutuku provides easy access to resources, insights and discussions that will empower cancer care navigators and related kaimahi of the cancer care coordination (CCC) services.

“This is a very exciting moment for our community and kaimahi, but it’s also a pivotal moment in how we approach cancer care navigation in Aotearoa,” he says.

“Our community will have support at their fingertips to access resources, insights, and discussions that empower them to grow professionally and personally.

“Pae Tukutuku will also see whanaungatanga in action. Engage with like-minded navigators, mentors, and experts who share your commitment to manaaki whānau living with cancer,” he says.

In February this year, a national hui of the 20 hauora Māori cancer care partners called for a common space to engage in conversations, identify and share resources, build evidence and best practice for Māori community care as services developed.

Initial feedback from some of the 20 hauora Māori cancer care partners has been valuable and poignant:

"Having this resource is another taonga for my kete to awhi and advocate for our whānau." - Pae Tukutuku registered member.

"Amplify the whānau voice, expedite access to care and resources to improve hauora outcomes for whānau."

“I want to be part of a connected thriving network of whānau passionate about improving cancer care for whānau Māori.”
